Top 10 Punch List

Here are some cost-effective items that made a big difference as I attempted to bring my house into the current decade. Actually, there are many more, but for now I'm posting my top ten! If nothing else they will give you a better idea of how the changes to our house came about.
  1. So long shrubbery (you know, the kind you can shape that make a great house for thousands of spiders).
  2. See you later home-crafted wooden block address numbers. Something nice clean and classy should mark your home, it's guaranteed to be one of the first things people notice about your house (your address of course).
  3. Goodbye solid slab, front door, we need some light in our entry and some contrasting color on our home's exterior.
  4. Outdated, undersized and white-cased exterior lighting must go. Last time I checked metal doesn't come in white naturally, so its not convincing at all.
  5. Welcome to colorville white garage door. Even if getting a new garage door isn't in the budget, painting it can make a big difference in updating the exterior of your home.
  6. Bu-bye Brass. Yes, all of it, anywhere. It's not current and it will date your house quickly. "The devils in the details." When it comes to updating hardware or lighting you can do-it-on-a-dime by starting with one floor or even one room.
  7. Beautiful lighting, from ceiling lights to floor lamps! I can't tell you what a big difference lighting makes in the atmosphere of your home. Get at least a few unique pieces that you love, those are the ones that usually become timeless.
  8. Pull down that chair rail. If it isn't being used as trim at the top of a decorative panel it's got to go. It can't stand alone and shouldn't, unless there's a real reason why you need to worry about someone or something continuously running into your walls at an exact height.
  9. Add interior trim around your windows; not having it may not stand out as an issue but it makes a huge (HUGE!) difference in making a room feel nice and finished.
  10. Hello beautiful kitchen cabinets. You would be surprised how affordable it can be to update your kitchen cabinets. Stay tuned to this blog and I will tell you how!
